How to organise a successful charity event

Are you organising an event to raise funds for charity? We’ve put together some basic tips to make sure everything goes smoothly and to maximise your fundraising:

Think of the entertainment

Who is your audience? Will a coffee morning be suitable? What about a night of dancing? Plan your entertainment well in advance! You may also want to consider holding a raffle as part of your entertainment, you can ask local businesses to donate prizes and raise lots more money for your charity with raffle ticket sales.

Get in touch with the charity

If you’re organising a large event, every bit of help you can get will be valuable. Who better to get in touch with than the charity itself? They’re most likely to have some materials you can use to help with your fundraising. Visit their website or give them a call and see how they can help. You may be able to download a full fundraising pack and be able to add more colour to your event with the materials they provide. They may also be able to help with ideas for entertainment.

Promotion, promotion, promotion

You’ll want to raise as much money as possible and therefore your event needs to be promoted well. After you’ve decided on entertainment, send your invites out early and include on them the name of the charity. Consider the best way to invite people, whether it’s via email, post or telephone and ask them to confirm their attendance or buy their tickets in advance.

Consider donation methods

How will people be donating? You may want to set up online donations as well as having a collection at the event. This will also make it easy for those who are unable to attend, but still wish to make a donation. You need to make it as easy as possible for yourself to get the money over to the charity, so check with them the ways you can donate.
