Westie
Well what can I tell you about my good-self ……..
I’ll take you back to 1867 when Westie IV, my great-great grandfather took pride of place in the Henderson family home. His master was none other than Alexander Henderson, one of the most highly esteemed and successful merchants and manufacturers in the city of Dundee.
Every morning without fail, my great-great grandfather would carry The Dundee Courier to his master who would be enjoying his early morning tea and toast served with Dundee marmalade. After a brisk walk in the grounds of the Mansion House, off they headed to the family business, South Dudhope Works where Westie IV would lie at the bottom of his master’s feet until tea-time.
Never a dull day was to be had at the family home – with Alexander’s 6 beautiful daughters and his 3 strapping young sons, my great-great grandfather was never short of affection. He wrote in his memoirs that sometimes the girls would smother him in cologne and don him in pretty pink ribbons and he would spend the rest of the day hiding from anyone who rang the doorbell- he had his reputation as West Park’s guard dog to maintain after all!!
Sadly, he died in but his legacy lives on - a sense of pride in the family home! And so, here I am today, standing tall (well as tall as I can at 2’!!) representing days gone by when West Park was a beautiful family home and today, West Park is still a beautiful home – to our guests, whether they are here for a wedding, a conference, a leisure break – the welcome is always warm….and one you can be sure will make you want to return time and time again.
